Rain Prayer

Alone
Lying on my bed
In the young night
In lamplight
I hear the rain
Falling on the other side
Of the window
The close up dripping,
The thumping and thrumming,
The tiptoeing, pattering noise
And the little mouse sounds
The calm, rhythmic rhyming of the rain
Coming to water old earth.

And here, alone, I pray
That you'll set my spirit free
I hear the rain around me
Come and rain on me.
